These kilts are made from the same quality of material as our traditional 8 yard kilts - either a 13oz medium weight, or 16oz heavy weight wool, but with less material. They are also machine sewn as opposed to hand sewn and therefore priced accordingly.
These kilts are ideal for football/rugby matches or to be used for more casual wear. They sit lower on the hips so do not include the normal 2" rise as with traditonal kilts, nor belt loops as standard.
Obviously with only 5 yards of material, the pattern (sett) of the pleats, which you would normally expect to see on a Gent's full 8 yard kilt, cannot always be achieved.
Some tartans are not commercially available, and therefore have to be specially woven. The minimum order for this is 8 yards, with the remaining 3 yards being sold at cost price. This service also incurs a surcharge of 25 pounds, making the total tax free purchase price 233.94 pounds. This would be for a 5 yard casual kilt, plus the remaining 3 yards of material, and is only applicable for more unusual tartans.
